Every garden has a story.

Do you need a quiet place to sit with a coffee?

An inviting space to entertain friends?

Somewhere to potter away on a Saturday morning?

The Fable Gardens design approach blends detailed, narrative driven design with practical solutions; creating landscapes that are beautiful, resilient and meaningful.

My designs are naturally DIY friendly and come with easy to follow guides and support, giving you the confidence to get your hands in the soil and really connect to your outdoor space.

My design process

Garden design with meaning.

Part 1

Garden visit - listening, looking, learning.

I’ll visit your garden, take photos, measurements, ask questions, observe, investigate, and listen.

This will inform the scope of your project, and gives me all the information and inspiration I’ll need to create a unique design for your garden.

After this I’ll write up a design brief summarising our conversation and my findings. If you’re happy to proceed, then I’ll start drawing up your garden concept.

I do charge a $75 fee for this initial visit, which is deducted off the next stage if you choose to continue on.

Part 2

Concept design -researching & drawing.

Back at the studio I’ll start drawing your concept plan and will put together some planting and materials inspiration.

This process should take 2 - 4 weeks depending on my current workload and the size of your garden.

I’ll then arrange a time to go over the garden concept with you, and leave you with printed plans and images to keep and look over.

At this point you are welcome to choose to continue the process to the detail stage, or if you’re already a confident DIY person you can simply use the concept to inspire and guide you.

My garden concept design pricing is based on the size of your property and the scope of your project. I’ll send a quote for the concept along with the summary after our initial meeting.

Cost indication: a concept design for a smaller 600m2 property would be around $650, minus the $75 consult fee.

Part 3

Garden plan and detail - refining & writing.

After discussing the initial concept I might make a few changes to the drawing, then I’ll put together your landscaping guide.

The guide is a printed A3 booklet with your garden plan, annotations, measurements, and estimate quantities of plants and materials with suggested suppliers.

There will be notes on construction, tools, and an estimate costing so you can budget each stage.

This should give you the confidence and information you need to complete the project yourself!

If you chose to hire a landscaper to complete the entire project, or just a stage of the project, this will make it simple for them to quote from, and you’ll be able to follow along with the work.

Cost indication: The detail package will cost $390 for an average small garden, the price increasing with the size of the property and scope of work.
