I’ve been working in the amenity horticulture industry for over 10 years, and have been playing in gardens my whole life.
Hi, I’m Evie Smith.
Fable Gardens was formed from the desire to work on projects that align with my own garden design values. I believe that anyone can create an amazing garden if they are passionate about their space, willing to learn, and are inspired and encouraged along the way.
My goal is to see more people connected with and caring for their gardens - I’d love to see the garden space truly become part of the home environment. I hope to work alongside my clients, giving them the confidence and skills they need to make the best of their outdoor spaces.

What is a fable?
A fable is a short, fictional story that aims to convey a moral lesson. Fables often feature animals, objects, or forces of nature as characters, which are anthropomorphized, meaning they are given human qualities. These tales are designed to teach ethical principles and impart wisdom.

My Garden Values
Take it easy.
A garden is never finished - it’s a process, not a product. There will always be something to do, something to learn from, something new.
Remember to stop and smell the flowers.
Plants with purpose.
Plant choices will be appropriate for the local climate and soil. Food and habitat sources are encouraged - for people, birds, insects, and for the soil environment. Native plants are precious - but so is that magnolia that reminds you of your gran.
A garden for all.
A garden is ultimately a cultural space designed for the people who live there. It should also be a good home for the insects, birds, fungi and plants that also inhabit the space.
A positive impact.
I believe a garden should make an overall positive contribution to the environment. I will always recommend permeable materials, as locally sourced as possible, and preferably with low environmental costs. Recycled materials are encouraged whenever possible.
